About

About us:

Wycheproof P-12 College has adopted a ‘levels of schooling’ approach with classes being structured in ‘Early’, ‘Middle’ and ‘Later’ Years areas.

We take great pride in the excellent success of students in the VCE and other post-compulsory educational programs as well as the sporting success of our students. Students are encouraged to realise their full potential and become responsible, co-operative members of the community. Strong partnerships have been built with the North Central Local Learning and Education Network (NCLLEN) and the Wycheproof Community Resource Centre (WCRC). The NCLLEN actively works with government, councils, business, schools, industry and the community to enable all children and young people to actively participate in education, training, and the community so they are confident, capable, and on their way to success in life. The NCLLEN Pathway’s Coordinator delivers counselling advice for students in the middle and later years. The NCLLEN also oversee the FLO Program based in Charlton which provides an alternative program for disengaged young people across the region.

The WCRC has partnered with the school over many years to support local programs including A Mount of Prevention (Anti-Family Violence Program, Local Drug Action Team). There are engaged and contributing student leaders across all sections of the school (whereby the SRC acts as a vehicle for student voice). Partnerships which support student health and wellbeing needs have been built by members of the School Transition Team (School Leadership, MATES Mentor Coordinators, NCLLEN Representatives, School Nurse, and School Chaplain) and regular referrals are made to these agencies (including Headspace and various health care workers – Speech Pathologist, Social Worker and Psychologist). A Foundation and Year 7 Transition Program (which is facilitated through strong communication links with our feeder preschool and primary school) encourages new students and their parents to become familiar with the school’s facilities and learning programs.

It is our aim to provide the students with a wide range of co-curricular opportunities – academic, social and cultural. A comprehensive camps and excursions program exists throughout the College and students are encouraged to be involved in the local community. Public speaking is a feature of the College’s co-curricular program. Students are able to participate in a range of sporting programs. These include Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming sports within the College and at Inter-school and State level, as well as inter-school competition in Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Netball, Table Tennis and Tennis. In Foundation to Year 6, students learn Chinese (Mandarin) and have the option of continuing their Chinese language studies through the Victorian School of Languages or select another language to study.

The small number of students at the College results in very good staff-student relationships and makes it relatively easy to maintain strong pastoral programs. Small class sizes assist teachers in catering for the individual needs of the students and Year Level Coordinators are the first point of contact for any concerns about students’ academic performance or general well-being. The MATES Mentoring Program (beginning in Year 10) is an additional school program that enhances the already very good relationships that exist amongst the students, staff and wider school community.

The College is very fortunate to enjoy a large indoor sporting complex and access to other community sporting facilities. Specialist rooms in each learning area are complemented by a well-equipped Computer Laboratory and laptops are available to all students. Year 12 students enjoy a common room and separate facilities for Careers Advice and Video Conferencing.

The SRC, formed from student representatives in Years 5-12, promotes student voice and provides strong leadership in organising school projects and student social functions.
